View Full Version : CET 2007 Analysis

Once again, the CET (for MMS and MBA programs in Maharashtra) proved that Peak Seekers is the MBA test prep institute for the thinking student -- someone who does not get taken in by repeated advertising, but instead looks at the facts.

Of the 200 questions in today's CET, 177 were exactly like the ones found in Peak Seekers' prepCETs. The remaining 23 were new question types for the CET. Read our detailed analysis of CET 2007 (http://www.peakseekers.in/CET-2007-Analysis.html). Find out our prediction on the minimum score to get into Bajaj. :)

135 seems to low

That is good to hear. Hopefully that means you are going to make us proud by getting more :D

cn i ask u sir......the logic behind the 15 mrk fall in cut offs???

Sure. Here is the deal. Last year the written cut-off was 150. This year, nothing became easier. But the following became tougher:

23 questions on new types in Logic
In many question, a lot more to read
In many questions there were variations (as explained in the CET analysis (http://www.peakseekers.in/CET-2007-Analysis.html)).Based on these, we see at least a 10 point reduction, if not 15. Hence 135-140 seems like it. How much will you score?

I found it to be Peak Seekers PrepCET 12 :) Probably a lengthy version of the same. And of course, with the new question types!

Hmmm...CET is changing...gradually but surely! Not a good sign for next year's aspirants!

What is your opinion on the paper?

So, what score are you expecting. Do not bother too much with the Visuals. In any case, our analysis expects you to get only 10 out of 30. If you get still lower, you could probably compensate it elsewhere.

Hi Anupam,

Your post looks like a Paragraph Construction question from CET!! :)

Don't lose heart! At least you have many calls, many of them better or on par with JBIMS. I think you should work hard at converting those!

YOu will surely get bored by the time you finish the procedures and Admission process of CET! You should surely look forward to converting something before that!

Here is one from me now:

Aaj jo Mirage (Mir-aaj) hai, Kal wo Miracle (Mira-kal) hoga! So, who knows, you may still be in race for JBIMS!

All the best!

I must point out that when we gave our prediction for CAT 2006, people hammered us as our prediction for the cutoffs was much higher than that of anyone else. In fact, the academic head of one popular institute actually came to meet Manish Sir and asked him to stop misleading students.

When the actual cut-offs were declared, we were almost 100% accurate (read: Peak Seekers Got CAT 2006 Right (http://www.peakseekers.in/Peak-Seekers-CAT-2006.html)).

Naturally, there is a hit-and-miss element here, but unlike other institutes where managers and administrators make these decision, in Peak Seekers teachers who are very closely involved with the students make these decisions.

I hope I am not eating my words next month, but I think that our written cutoff of 140 for Bajaj will be the best prediction for CET 2007. I wish myself all the best :D

Hi Anupam,

Incidentally, in CET 2005, the last JBIMS seat was fetched by one of my students, Vinay Nair. He had a written score of 129 and had a Mumbai rank of 46 (I don't remember his overall score though).

I have seen the cut-off's of CET being high and low in alternate years...Infact I had quoted in one of my workshops that this year I am expecting the scores to fall...and I am pretty sure they would!

PS: Just for your information, though Vinay claimed the last seat that year, he secured a 14 lakh pay pakage in his final placements (one of the highest salaries offered in JBIMS this year). So Anupam, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Don't lose hope!

What was your score last year? Also, what has been your accuracy in our Preps?

Ankit, the cutoff is not decided by popular opinion. Like I had mentioned earlier, our CAT 2006 cutoff prediction was 2 points away from the actual (and that is 2 out of 300, i.e. 0.66% error only). Most other institutes were off by 15 to 40 marks. Also, I recommend comparing the prepCETs of all institutes with the actual CET to establish some idea of who understands the CET better.

That is not to say that we will always be right. But, still, I recommend that you use your own analysis and not try to average out predictions. Last year the written CET cut off (i.e. out of 200) was 150. Use that as the starting point and compare all teh things that were different in this CET versus the last one, and you will have your own prediction.

BTW, how much are you expecting? :) That is probably a better point to think about :)

150 cutoff ..... Kidding me ???
about the paper ..... it was pathetic , demoralising , lengthy. I used to be glad when "None of these" appeared as an option in Mocks , coz most of the times , that is not the answer. But here i had a surprise. In DI , i marked some answers based on approximation, but then there were a few where the options were not even close (obviously "None of these") so i cross checked for the previous questions and Wow !!! so many answers turned out to be "none of these" , so i tried to play safe and did most calculations till 2 decimals. Ofcourse that sucked up a lot of time.
It was not a good paper specially for someone like me who counts on things like analytical reasoning , quants etc and finds Verbal / syllogisms a killer. Couldnt have seen a nightmare thats worse than this paper.
Anyways, i was somehow able to make a genuine attempt of around 160.
Best part about the paper is that it has now made me a strong believer of God. Am i left with any other option ??

well the worst part is that i couldnt even guess it that well. Coz if i consider things like accuracy in Mocks, even my attempts used to be huge there. This was a very different story for me. I couldnt trust my instincts in the exam. I did panic this time inspite of being so prepared. Just keeping my fingers crossed now.

hello evry1 , well the last exam of the season and cet 2007 also had a few surprises.I believe that the overall cut-offs would surely drop.I found that the paper had many time-consuming questions that seemed to be quite easy at the first sight. Also syllogisms was a surprise especially while soving those questions on conclusions , assumptions and inferences. As usual quant weightage was less ,though we had 5 questions on probability against 5 on permutations which had appeared last yr.And the worst thing was the power failure :( was literally sweating while reading the RC :P ,Neways lets wait n watch till 23rd march , best of luck guys for ur gd/pi's and cet results too ;)

Juzz to raise my hopes. if the overall cut-offs go down by around 15 marks this yr, does that still mean that JBIMS would be available at a score of around 160 (Including GD-PI) ??? coz last yr, last seat for JBIMS was at 173.

one question i remember...... infact 3 coz the same question was asked thrice for statement, conclusion and inference!

the railway authorities have decided to increase the rates of the upper class and marginally decrease the rates for long distance

what is the assumption/conclusion/inference for the above statement??

1. The upper class may be able to afford the price hike
2. The railway authorities may be authorized to regulate the prices
3. People may continue to use the railway services
4.
5.

dont quite remember the last twon option but i think the fifth option was "None of these"

hello sir,
it seems people have attempted good enuf of questions... i think i spoke to almost 30 -40 people and people have told that they attemptd 150 genuine and 50 random marking ones...
i dont know wat the cut - off are goin to be lets c... just hope for the best.....
the worst part was that we had power failure and i was sittin in the darkest corner of the room...
hmmm about the papers one think which i felt was time consuming was the syllogisms part coz for every statement they had asked diffrent things.
for eg: Q154 - find the cause
Q155 find the effect... and it continued in the same way...
this was confusing and really time consuming...
i think otherwise in a way the paper was not bad... we needed to work harder.... lol....

Thnx Anupam, I have got selected for SIES PGDBA as well. Since its AICTE approved, ithink it should be good. Just to correct what Shashank has said, i passed out in 2004, working for the past 1.5 yr @Eserve - Citigroup But the problem is i stay@goregaon & have to travel to Nerul everyday whereas ICFAI is very close. So pls suggest what is the best course of action.. Guys request you to help me out of this dilemma. Cet though is uncertain ... Fees for SIES is not known & deadlines should be arnd the end of this month.Would also like to know whether SIES PGDBA is better than that of Chetana & MET
