The paper was largely on the lines of what most of you have solved for the past 4 weeks. With minor changes, this test was a bit on the easier side. In fact, Manish Sir of the Vile Parle Centre (26108001, 2) dubbed it "Peak Seekers Mock Test 11"

Rahul Zaveri

How does that word sound? Was it music to CET takers ears or a a painful area today?

Hello Rahul Sir,
What is your take on the Syllogisms in the CET today?

Manish Sir,

There were almost 3 qsts of the same kind in Data sufficiency, which went-

What is the value of the 2 digit no.
1) the difference is 9
2) the product is 0

Should the answer option be (e), none are sufficient, because the answer could be either 09 or 90, and its not possible to tell?

Bhavna.

Manish Salian
26th February 2006, 07:21 PM
Hi Bhavana

09 is not a two digit number. Only 1 is sufficient. The number is 90.

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 07:21 PM
just like last year's test, the paper maintained varying levels of difficulty across all four types ie. Probably true - probably false, Courses of action, assumptions and logical set theory in decreasing order.

Hi Bhavana,

How was your CET paper?? Serious attempts??? Concern Areas???

Manish Sir,
On the whole what is your opinion on cut-offs? Will they rise? Will they fall?

bhavna_par
26th February 2006, 07:27 PM
Hello Sir,

I am not sure how to categorise my paper. Serious attempts were around 160. I may have made more silly mistakes than i think, like the one i've posted :(

Manish Salian
26th February 2006, 07:29 PM
Well I believe if you had prepared for CET (or for CAT) seriously, you could have easily scored 135+. With an average of 25 marks in the second stage, the cut-off's for Bajaj is expected to be above 160. This is a bit on the higher side as last year it was 157 for open category.

Manish Salian
26th February 2006, 07:32 PM
Never mind Bhavna! I believe it was your best attempt across all papers, as this test was not only on the lines of Peak Seekers tests but also a bit on the easier side! What say?

For those who missed it, the overall analysis if the CET is posted in another thread at: http://forum.peakseekers.in/showthread.php?t=40

Well sir, certain areas were definitely easier like the alpha numerical series, the puzzles, and the fact that there was not much maths (Yessss!), DI was uncomplicated too. But, the RC was a wee bit tougher than expected on CET levels. Syllog's were ok. Parajumbles was a nightmare. I could construct good sentences but could JUST not fit in one sentence into the para at all! So, dont know if i have finally constructed it right or wrong. Basically sir, the situation with most qsts is....if its right, the whole 5 marks set will be right, and if its wrong, the whole 5 marks set will be wrong. (Brrr.....)

Hi BHAVNA PAR: On the whole I feel nervous but vaguely satisfied with today's test. I do not want to be overconfident, but I think that I was well prepared for the test :)

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 07:45 PM
hi Bhavna,

should We let the CET out of the bag? ok here we go. lets reduce the anxiety and euphoric anticipation of correct answers.

bhavna,

RC was definitely difficult compared to rest of the paper, but 6 - 7 Qs could have bee picked giving 90 secs per Q. WRT Parajumbles, It may have appeared difficult due to its lenght, but that is precisely what made it easy. the key was to locate absence of statement F from all Q's , hence F had to be statement 4. If you cracked this, you will definitely score a minimum of 3 on 5 in parajumbles, as both the Q statements will precede statement F and one statement definitely was a general start

Good for u!!!

Rahul Sir,

You are right about the RC sir, i guess a safe amount of qsts could be attempted without hassles. Parajumbles too sir. I wish i could remember the sequence! DO u remember the order?

And in case someone is wondering where Manish Sir has disappeared, well he is having tech issues and has accidentally locked himself out of the forum for 15 minutes. Luckily 5 of those minutes are over and he will be back with us shortly.

What do u suppose is the answer for-

Pick the odd one out....
WIndow, door, roof, concrete?

Thank God I had started working on these forums long ago. Made a few friends and learnt a bit.

Based on what I read in the other thread (http://forum.peakseekers.in/showthread.php?t=40), it seems like Math was very easy. I had appeared for CAT. I think that for a Bajaj aspirant, we are looking for a new full score in Math. Is that fair assessment?

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 07:59 PM
i think first statement was
C-1) the dinging digital device taht allows us to connect, communiacte easily, disrupt lives.......

A-2) Do the devices that make it possible .......merely help us spin our wheels faster

E-3) What sort of toll is all this disruption and mental channel ....

F-4) over the past 5 years psychologists explore...questions in detail

D-5) They have begun to calculate pluses & minuses....

B-6) More importantly they are exploring what can be done about it...

I know I am not Sir, but I think that the odd one would be "concrete" the others are parts of a house. BTW, I forget, what was the 5th option to this question?

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 08:05 PM
Hi Rajesh,

This is Manish sir here. unfortunately, I have been logged off due to some reasons (technical glitch!!)., so I am using Rahul sir's id to reply.

I think, other than one set of DI the rest of Maths was very easy. In case you had left Perm Com, you would have not been able to answer 5 more questions. But I belive, out of 50 Q's, you should have easily scored around 35 (considering the 10 marks of Logical Math and Qunatitative Comparison was totally on the lines of what you got in our tests

I find para jumble mind-jumbling. I can always find at least two ways of looking at things. In the above, you are choosing CAEFDB. How about AECFDB? This is all quite taxing. 5 points down the toilet would be very little fun. I must get into Bajaj :D

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 08:08 PM
Hi Bhavna,

You missed out on the 5th option! It was wall, and the correct answer is Concrete, as all the others are words used to indicate different parts of house!

PS: I guess it is not a good idea to discuss questions here!! :)

Hi ramki.....how did ur paper go?

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 08:14 PM
hi ramki,

A or E cannot precede C as C lays the premise for the rest of the paragraph, use of words 'this' and 'that' in A & E coincide well with the idea of digital devices in C...this is what we think at Peak Seekers...But like Syllogisms, Parajumbles do tend to get dicey and examiner is always right (perhaps with some other logic)..so your answer has an equal probability of being right.. just chill

Aah PTPF, my worst nightmare. I am always sure of my answer and I often get it wrong :( Do share the solutions with us :)

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 08:36 PM
Ramki,

PT PF could have been avoided this time... if you did attempt it, this was a rare case where all five answers were different...covering the entire range from definitely true to data inadequate..here are the answers

1) Indian economy may be able to to sustain present rate of growth - Probably false

2) India's projected growth around 7 % - Definitely true

3) Past world economy has not grown at present rate - probably true

4) Avg eco. growth of Soviet breakaway block - Data Inadequate

5) India's economy way above always low performing economies - definitely false

Rahul Zaveri
26th February 2006, 08:44 PM
you are really good at PT - PF dude...4 on 5 on a relatively difficult passage in PT PF is commendable

wrt to Q 1

The very fact that the passage mentioned something about.... but it is illusory to think that our policies and projects will always keep improving.... in teh final statement..implies that w/o major changes Indian economy will not be able to sustain growth vis-a-vis world growth.... I am tempted to mark it as definitely false... but the way it is worded leaves a little doubt about its veracity...hence probably false

1) complicating (2)...should have been complicated..incorrect usage

2) intertain (3),,,,,should have been entertain...spelling error

3) efficiency (1)....should have been efficient..parellelism

4) necklesses (4)...should have been necklaces..spelling error

5) No error as the sentence was grammatically correct..
