Hi,
You seem to be in no mood to even try any of my questions! But I will keep my promise and keep posting the questions. At least it will serve as a reminder of the number of days remaining.
So here is the questions for today, a rather simple one again:
Q.78. If you were to write all the numbers from 1 to 1000 in words, can you tell me how many times would you have written the letter 'A'?
Present Score: Anil Daga : 10 points, Rest : 0 points

Manish sir

Q.78. If you were to write all the numbers from 1 to 1000 in words, can you tell me how many times would you have written the letter 'A'
The answer is = ONCE
If we spell the numbers from 1-20 we notice thr is not a single 'a'
also 30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100 hav no 'a's
so all numbers from 1-999 hav no a's
(eg. : 143 is spelled as one hundred fourty three)(no and's included-unlike lajja)
only thousand has 1 'a'
and from 1-1000..only 'one thousand' has single a
so total no of a's = 1
Hopefully i earn 5 points this time.... this time im well within deadline..sir lastime also i was..proof : hitesh sir! not fair sir! n anyways i gav those ans right first so i deserve 2 points atleast! its very discouraging to score a 0 AFTER 2 CORRECT ANSWERS! HAHAHA!!!! kidding,,,, but this time no cheating sir!
this thread is very interesting n enjoyable sir , undoubtedly , but sir the question numbers are killing me!! need to boost up prep sir!!!

Yes, you would be surprised, the first time the letter 'A' appears while writing 1 to 1000 in words is in the word 'Thousand' itself.
Hence you would write it only once.
Lajja, you only write 'and' while writing the amount on cheques, as in "One hundred and fifty five"!
Minnat, you get 5 points for this one. And since my job is to encourage participation (and not discourage it) I will give you 4 points for your earlier efforts as well i.e. Q.82 and Q.81.
Score after Q.78.
Anil : 10 points, Minnat: 9 points.
I think, one of the two will run away with the prize while the others are still to wake up!

Manish sir
