Guesses r alowed but only an answer with justification will be considered a valid one.
BEST OF LUCK.

Is half of two plus two equal to two or three?

The funda is to obey the principles of BODMAS. Where the calculation would be done from Left to Right and division would be done before addition. Hence We get 1 (2/2) + 2 = 3.

Thanks,

hey Robin u've only given 2 options where r the remaining 2
QUESTION IS NOT VALID !! .... just kidding ;)

well i think the answer is 2 or 3 coz there are 2 cases to b considered
case 1 : if v consider 1/2(2)+ 2 thn the answer is 3
case 2 : if v consider 1/2 (2+2) thn the answer is 2
since what has to b considered is not specified it has to b 2or3
because according to BODMAS what is within brackets should b solved first:)

thnx,
Anmol

Hi Robin,

You should have put this thread under English Question! This is indeed a English question asked in Maths (A Minglish question!! :) ). Nisha, it is bad news for you - even English questions have Maths in it!

It is matter of where you put the comma?

If the question is:

What is half of, two plus two? The answer is 1/2 (2 + 2) = 2.

However, if the question is:

What is half of two, plus two? The answer is 1/2 x 2 + 2 = 3.

Very interesting Robin! So Do I earn 5 points for this one or not?

The position of Comma reminds me of yet another interesting logic question that I had come across when I was in school:

What is the difference between a 'Cat' and a 'Comma'?

Think...Think...you need Lateral Thinking out here! De Bono are you there?

Regards,

Manish sir
